Don’t think that means the 2022 Sports Illustrated Swimsuitcover star starves herself or takes drastic measures to stay slim. In addition to being a model, speaker, and best-selling author, Musk, 74, is a registered dietitian. She takes her work seriously, as she knows how difficult it can be to eat healthy when times get tough. She told Sports Illustrated Swimsuitthat she “was obese for 10 years” after finding out that her fiancé had gotten another model pregnant—and then moved in next door. “I was sad, and I ate my way through that beacuse I’ve always had to control my eating habits. I’m not naturally lean,” she explained to SI Swim. “It’s hard for me. So [eating well] has helped me a lot to be in good health.” The Canadian-South African supermodel explained that as a dietitian, she follows research and doesn’t do fad diets, noting that the science “pretty much hasn’t changed—it’s the basic food groups and eat a variety of foods.“She eats “very carefully,” which she said helped her manage high cholesterol and back and knee pain without taking drugs or painkillers. Staying on track has helped her thrive—as she says in her Instagram bio, “#ItsGreatToBe74”—which is especially important for someone so busy with her career and family. Modeling since she was 15, she became CoverGirl’s oldest spokesmodel at age 69 and is now the oldest SI Swimsuit rookie. She has three children, Tesla and SpaceX founder Elon Musk, restauranteur Kimbal Musk, and filmmaker Tosca Musk, and 12 grandchildren.
