When are the 2021 People’s Choice Awards?

The People’s Choice Awards were held on Tuesday, Dec. 7 at the Barker Hangar in Santa Monica, California. (For all you awards-show hardcores out there, the venue also frequently hosts such events as the Critics’ Choice Awards and the Film Independent Spirit Awards.) They aired simultaneously on E! and NBC from 9-11 p.m. ET/PT.

Who hosted the 2021 People’s Choice Awards?

Saturday Night Live and Kenan star Kenan Thompson got the gig! “I can’t believe I get to host the PCAs!!” Thompson said back in early November when his role as host was announced. “I’m beyond blessed to be nominated twice and part of two more nominations for SNL. Good times indeed.” That’s right: Thompson’s not just the host, he was also a double nominee! The 43-year-old funnyman was up for The Comedy TV Star of 2021 and The Male TV Star of 2021, both for his work on SNL. This year marks the first time Thompson’s ever been a PCAs nominee.

Who are the 2021 People’s Choice Awards winners and nominees?

The 2021 People’s Choice Award nominations were revealed on Oct. 27, with F9, This Is Us and Bieber coming out on top as the most nominated movie, TV series and musical artist, respectively. In movies, the latest flick in the Fast and Furious franchise received eight total nods, followed by Marvel’s Black Widow with six. Dwayne Johnson, who has been in the Fast and Furious franchise (but not F9), scored noms in a variety of categories, including Male Movie Star, Male TV Star and Social Media Star.  This Is Us led the TV categories with six nominations, with Disney+’s Loki right behind at five. Fan favorites Ted Lasso, WandaVision, Law and Order: SVU and Grey’s Anatomy all scored four nods each, and the monstrously popular Netflix series Squid Game also grabbed a nomination for The Bingeworthy Show of 2021. The big name in music in 2021 is Bieber, who grabbed a whopping 10 PCA noms for his work over the past year. Lil Nas X received six nominations, while Doja Cat and Olivia Rodrigo scored four each. South Korean supergroup BTS captured four PCA nominations, including two in the Music Video category: one for their English-language song “Butter” and one for “My Universe,” their collab with Coldplay. For the newsmakers this year, Simone Biles, Bubba Wallace, Serena Williams, Patrick Mahomes, Naomi Osaka, Carl Nassib, Sunisa Lee and Alex Morgan all received nominations in the Game Changer category (and Biles won!). Even Prince Harry and his wife Meghan Markle got their own PCA nomination: Their interview with Oprah Winfrey is nominated for Pop Special of 2021, but lost out to HBO Max’s Friends reunion.
