One choir teacher, in particular, went viral because of the inventive and exciting way he announced this year’s musical to his students. The teacher, Mr. Myles Finn, shared an eight-part series of TikToks in which he slowly took away options of what the musical could be before finally revealing the one the school would be putting on. Finn began posting on Aug. 24, with a video captioned, “Day 1 of announcing what musicals we are NOT doing for the 2023 Musical!” But things really started kicking off with his final three videos, which show “The FINAL day of our musical reveal. " Finn started off the first of these three videos by addressing his students: “We made it to our final day. Are you so excited?” The students cheered in response. On a whiteboard, there were three final options, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat, Mary Poppins, and Beauty and the Beast. He began by removing the first musical before he stunned the kids by taking all options off the board. Many students shouted “What?” in response. In the second of three videos, Finn shared a video he pre-recorded, performing a little skit while “looking” for the actual musical, making the kids laugh and ramping up anticipation. Eventually, he pulled out a paper that said, “Alexa, play musical announcement.” In the final video, a clip started playing on a projector that looked like it was buffering, but it was really a fake video of buffering, just to drag it out more and elicit responses from the kids. Finally, the musical was revealed when music started playing, with iconic finger snaps indicating that The Addams Family is the school’s seasonal play. The kids were definitely excited, with one person even shouting, “Are you for real right now?” The response to these videos has been astounding, with the final clip currently having 3.2 million likes. Many people in the comments complimented Finn on his obvious love for his students and theater, with many sharing how similarly supportive teachers positively changed their lives growing up. In a later video on his channel, Finn thanked everyone for the intense support and stated that they will be performing the musical in April 2023, for those nearby who would like to come.
