Starring together on the celebrated ABC sitcom from 1987 to 1995, Bure played DJ Tanner, the eldest daughter of Saget’s character, Danny Tanner, who raised his three girls with the help of his best friend, Uncle Joey (Dave Coulier), and brother-in-law, Uncle Jesse (John Stamos). In a new episode of “The Candace Cameron Bure Podcast,” the actress opened up about her relationship with Saget, calling him “the most beloved” dad she’s ever had on TV. “I miss him dearly,” Bure, 46, said about the late comedian, who died unexpectedly in January at age 65. “He wasn’t just a great TV dad—he was one of my closest friends, which was incredible,” Bure, 46, continued on Tuesday’s episode. Despite playing her dad on TV for years, Bure said Saget was more like a friend to her than anything else. “That’s why I miss him so much,” she explained. “Bob was more of a friend than my dad because I feel like some of the things that I did with Bob I wouldn’t do with my dad.” One example she gave was taking trips to rock concerts. “We used to like drive around and listen to music with some of the other cast members from Full House and he was like my older friend that was really cool that would make me cool,” she added. Following news of Saget’s death earlier this year, Bure shared an Instagram tribute in honor of the America’s Funniest Home Videos host, including a series of heartfelt pictures of the onscreen daddy-daughter duo. “I love you sooooo much. I don’t want to say goodbye 💔,” she wrote at the time. “35 years wasn’t long enough.” Bure recently launched her new podcast series, which already has three episodes available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify and YouTube.
