The title of this upcoming season is officially American Horror Story: Double Feature. Just as old-timey, drive-in movie theaters might have screened a “double feature” with two movies back to back, AHS will tell two different stories this season. The first six episodes will tell a story called Red Tide, and the final four episodes of the season will belong to a story called Death Valley.
Is there a trailer for American Horror Story: Double Feature?
On July 27, FX shared a minute-long Season 10 teaser on social media, promising “a collision of terror like you’ve never seen”—which perhaps suggests that Red Tide and Death Valley will feature storylines that overlap in some way. (Or it could just mean that Double Feature will be the flat-out scariest season of AHS yet.) Then, on August 13, Red Tide received its own, separate, full-length trailer, which shows a small family heading to a beach town so that a young father can concentrate on his writing work—with creepy results. But perhaps the strangest teaser of all is the one that arrived on the official AHS Twitter account on Aug. 22. “What will you hear across the waves? Tune in tomorrow at 1PM EST / 10AM PST,” the tweet read alongside a 34-second audio teaser that seemed to patch together audio dispatches from “KPCD-666 Cape Radio.” The promo presumably ties in with the Red Tide story—and of course, we all know the satanic significance of “666.” Fans can listen to more of the “broadcast” during a special Twitter event on Mon. Aug. 23 at 1 p.m. ET/10 a.m. PT.
Are there any American Horror Story Season 10 spoilers?
Details have been trickling out for months about AHS Season 10, but there are very few concrete spoilers. Murphy said that there would be two stories, “one by sea and the other by sand,” earlier this year, and people have been trying to solve that riddle ever since. The AHS Season 10 teaser and poster art haven’t offered much more in terms of clues. In one poster, a female-presenting creature seems to be licking the neck of an alien. Another shows a sharp-toothed creature, kneeling and holding what seems to be a dead alien bridal style. In the teaser, the creatures don’t seem warm toward each other, so what’s going on? Are the creatures and aliens friends or enemies? Frenemies? Does their relationship matter? It’s still unclear how they’ll terrorize the cast this season. There is some casting tea: Lily Rabe and Sarah Paulson are said to be in both Red Tide and Death Valley, playing a different character in each. Rabe will reportedly be playing Amelia Earhart and Paulson will be former First Lady Mamie Eisenhower in Death Valley.
What happened in Season 9 of American Horror Story?
The subtitle of American Horror StorySeason 9 was 1984, and fittingly, that season played out like an homage to horror films from the 1980s, with a killer stalking teens at a summer camp, years after similar events transpired. However, because of the anthology structure of American Horror Story, the plot of Season 10 will probably not have anything at all to do with Season 9.

Okay, so the aliens in the teaser and the poster art seem pretty easy to understand, but what’s the deal with the other creatures? Many think that the sharp-toothed enigmas are in fact Sirens, based on the Greek mythological creatures who lure sailors to their death with their song. Why? In April, Murphy ran a Twitter poll, tweeting out a list of four possible storylines for “expanding the universe” and asked fans to vote on their favorite. At the time, it was unclear whether the final choice would be an upcoming season story or something entirely new. When the final choices were “Bloody Mary” and “Plague,” many followers wanted a “recount”—turns out, many fans didn’t want to watch a show about a plague while still in the midst of a very real pandemic. In response, Murphy switched out “Plague” for “Sirens," but never tweeted out which choice was the final winner. People suspect the winner was Sirens; sharp teeth and a beach location for Season 10 seem to say it’s a possibility.
Who will be in American Horror Story Season 10?
Separate seasons’ plots don’t necessarily intersect in the American Horror Story universe—but locations, characters and actors do. There are several actors who have appeared on more than one season, like Paulson and Evan Peters, who are both returning to AHS after missing only one season of the show (Season 9). There’s also a brand new star rolling up for Double Feature: Home Alone star Macaulay Culkin. Murphy shared the cast list on his Instagram account earlier this year. Why is Macaulay Culkin in American Horror Story: Double Feature?
The former Home Alone child star is now an adult with a child of his own–and he’s stepping into the weird world of AHS for the first time. Why? “I told him he has crazy, erotic sex with Kathy Bates and does other things,” recalled Murphy in a May 2020 interview. “And he paused and he goes, ‘This sounds like the role I was born to play.’ So, he signed up right then and there.” Murphy is thrilled to have Culkin doing the show. “There’s both a lightness and a darkness with Macaulay Culkin that I’m attracted to,” he’s said. For what it’s worth, there’s no indication that AHS veteran Bates officially signed on for this season; internet sleuths have noted that Bates may have been replaced by another AHS vet, Frances Conroy.
Where was Double Feature filmed?
Like many shows, the COVID-19 pandemic affected the production of American Horror Story: Double Feature. In May 2020, Season 10 shooting was delayed, which meant that the season couldn’t start on or around Halloween, as per usual. Shooting delays concerned Murphy, because he originally had a “weather-dependent” plan for Season 10. “A lot of what I was going to shoot was dependent on a very specific moment, it was a weather-dependent show,” he said at the time. “So now I don’t know. I don’t know what we’re going to do.” When the show finally started filming for Red Tide, it took place in Provincetown, Massachusetts, with Murphy snapping at least one on-set pic there featuring Culkin and Grossman. Death Valley is reportedly still being taped in Los Angeles after someone on the production tested positive for the COVID-19 virus in July and shooting stopped for a few days.
Will there be more seasons of American Horror Story?
